Why am I calling these overnight oats Flower-Child? Because they contain a combination of flowers that make this a lightly sweet overnight oatmeal with bursting with fruit-based prebiotics & probiotics! I am a huge fan of overnight oats because they are quick & easy to assemble + are excellent for whatever your mood is into that day when it comes to flavor + toppings.
Lets talk probiotics. Probiotics are living microorganisms/bacteria. Prebiotics are non digestible carbohydrates that are food for probiotics. We carry around 100 trillion microbial cells in our body. Probiotics are noted for aiding digestive health + supporting the immune system because of its friendly, beneficial bacteria (some more on that here)
Ora Organic’s Trust Your Gut Organic Probiotic & Prebiotic Powder contains 20 billion probiotics per serving and scoop provides 20% of your daily fiber needs. It’s freeze dried so it can be stored in a dark space and the powder makes it versatile for using it in recipes! The best part is that Trust Your Gut is all plant sourced: probiotics from tapioca, jerusalem artichokes, & its fruity taste comes from organic apples & raspberries. The powder is completely vegan, allergen friendly, gluten free, & organic (duh).
Trust Your Gut contains the following strains: Lactobacillus acidophilus DDS-1, Lactobacillus reuteri , Bifidobacterium bifidum, Bifidobacterium breve, Bifidobacterium lactis, and Bifidobacterium longum. Why do I mention these? Because they are the most studied bacteria strains, and lets be honest we should know about our strains.
Probiotics & prebiotics can be found in whole-foods, however having a supplement comes in handy when you want an on-the-go addition (think shakes, or added to water), or don’t have the time to adjust or keep certain foods at hand. I’m not the biggest fan of vitamins so powders (or potions as I like to call them) are my go-to.
Onto the recipe!!! I wanted to create a probiotic overnight oat recipe that is simple + easy. This takes no longer than 15 minutes to assemble and all you gotta do is leave it in the fridge till the next day. overnight oats can be refrigerated for unto 5 days so feel free to meal prep this! I dont have much of a sweet-tooth so these oats are lightly sweetened with maple syrup +
The blue color comes from Blue Chai’s Matcha tea & Nutrex Hawaiian Spirulina. It makes a perfect meal prep recipe + take it to wherever ya need it. I like taking it to work and getting questions on the dreamy blue color! Plus it’s quite filling and full of protein & health. You can add as many toppings as you want + need.
Flower-Child Probiotic Overnight Oats | Vegan & GF
- 1 tsp Ora Organic’s Trust Your Gut Organic Probiotic & Prebiotic Powder
- 1/2 tsp of Blue Chai Matcha tea powder (you can add more or less for preferred color)
- 1/8th tsp (or a good pinch) of Nutrex Hawaiian Spirulina Powder
- 1/2 cup GF rolled oats
- 1 tbsp Grade B Maple syrup or choice of liquid sweetener
- 4-5 tsp plant milk of choice
- 1/2 cup plant milk of choice
- 1/4 cup coconut cream (the thick cream from a can of coconut milk)
In a bowl, stir together the Trust Your Gut Organic Probiotic & Prebiotic Powder, Grade B Maple syrup, and oats. Begin to add some of the plant milk (your 4-5 tsps) and stir. Add the Blue Chai Matcha tea powder & Spirulina and stir until well incorporated. Add your mixture to a mason jar.
Next, take your coconut cream (the thick portion from a can of coconut milk) and layer it atop the oats.
Close well and then leave this jar overnight in the fridge. In the morning (or a few hours later) you are ready to continue decorating or eat as is. Heres what I did:
- homemade granola like my Pantry to Plate Earl Grey + Berry Granola
- freeze dried strawberries
- Blue Chai’s Pink Rose Petal Powder
I took 1/8th tsp of Pink Rose Petal Powder and whisked it into the coconut cream for a dreamy pink hue. I layered some of my Plate Earl Grey + Berry Granola and then some slivers freeze dried strawberries on top! Enjoy a video on how I did it!
