Summer Comfort with Clover’s Citronella Candles

When summer comes, I’m not exactly thrilled. High temperatures, redirecting my attention to summer skin care, and the unwelcome return of certain insects that like to bite kind of ruin my vibe. But there are positives! The abundance of produce, a legit reason to get out of my home to travel to another city with more desirable temperatures (here’s looking at you, Santa Barbara)

Summer also gives us a reason to spend more time outdoors. Think porch picnics, watching the sunset, post-dusk walks when the temperatures drop and you can escape the heat at the end of the day.

When June came to a close I had the misfortune of being bitten by the summer dwelling bugs. Uncomfortable? Yes. Aesthetically pleasing? Nah. I used plenty of calendula balm to ease the pain but I also turned to help from the plant world: citronella. Specifically speaking, citronella candles. I’d rather choose a natural insect repellant that something potential harmful, and while there are topical choices to chose from, directly putting essential oil based products can be slightly astringent on your skin. For the best results in avoiding insects while using candles, keep them burning at a close range for better results!

When it comes to candles I prefer glass (its recyclable and reusable) and I am not a proponent of using synthetic fragrances or sprays so these are practical and quite lovely. Handmade in the United States by  Clover’s Home and Garden these Lemongrass x Citronella Mosquito Repellent Candles are made with natural soy wax blend and my favorite part is that the scent comes from essential oils such as: Lemongrass, Citronella, Geranium and Lemon. So basically it smells like summer in a candle, but their purpose is to repel unwanted bug bites and little critters.

These burn quite a while (several hours) and would be excellent for camping + glamping, outdoor events. Just keep them in close proximity to you and your company for an insect-free day.

And while I don’t recommend taking naps while candles are burnin’ it was nice to be lulled to sleep by the scent of citronella while listening to my favorite meditation apps + a good book out on the porch.

Let me know how you are enjoying summer!
