Buckwheat Waffles with Raw Probiotic Caramel | v + gf

You guys, homemade waffles are so easy to make! Earlier this year my beau bought a mini set of cookware, which had a waffle maker! I have wanted a waffle maker for quite a while but never it never seemed to happen, however I do have this mini one now and I happen like its size, its a bit smaller than your typical waffle but I prefer them! Its even portable for travel or if you live in a smaller space.

Waffles in the morning are my jam because, when made with a nutritious flour like the one I used here, they are particularly filling – the buckwheat flour is a boost of nutrition and the remaining 5 ingredients are plant based. I kept mine basic vanilla but you can certainly add your favorite spices + natural flavors like cinnamon, chocolate chips, bluebs, etc!

 

This prebiotic + probiotic caramel is my take on the decadent topping. Its creamy and delicious and can be ahead of time, although if you do happen to do this, add the Ora Organics Probiotics with Prebiotics at serving time because the probiotics become activated when they come into contact with any type of moisture! (no harm comes from adding your powder then storing, but to achieve the most viable results, consume them upon adding)

If you’re like me and happen to have some leftovers, I just place them in an stainless steel container and save them for dessert or the next day!

Buckwheat Waffle recipe from The New Vegan Cookbook | v+gf

3/4 cup Bob’s Red Mill Buckwheat Flour

1/2 teaspoon baking powder

1/2 cup plant milk

1/2 tablespoon vanilla extract

2 tablespoons Grade B maple syrup

1/2 tablespoon coconut oil

To make these waffles simply:

  • mix the dry ingredients and wet ingredients separately
  • combine both wet and dry, mix well to create the batter
  • heat up your waffle maker + add a bit of coconut oil!
  • pour the batter into the waffle maker and cook according to your waffle makers direction

 

Raw Probiotic + Prebiotic Caramel | v + gf

1/2 cup coconut cream (or you can scoop it from a can of regular coconut milk)

1-2 tablespoons of Grade B maple syrup

1 tbsp coconut oil

1 pinch pink sea salt

(optional) 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 teaspoon of Ora Organics Probiotics with Prebiotics

To create this fresh take on caramel simply mix all the ingredients with the exception of the Ora Organics Probiotics with Prebiotics – add the teaspoon when you are going to consume the caramel. Why? These Pro+Prebiotics become active when mixed with moisture, to assimilate and consume the integrity of the product (when mixed with liquids) its best to consume it immediately.

Serve on top of the waffles and feel free to add whatever other toppings you desire + local fruits are a great start, I happened to have leftover freeze dried strawberries!
