autumn essentials

Where to begin! This post has been a long time coming but finally compiled. A glorious treats of autumnal necessities. Today is a beautiful overcast day with a heavy chance of rain so I’m already wearing long socks, boots and sipping on some roobois tea.

Kinfolk Vol. 9 | I have had this issue since september but I have been so busy with school I only got the chance to read another wonderful compilation (as always) devoted to the weekend and as usual, beautiful photography!

Chocolita Raw “chocolate” | I love chocolate, but lately I have been trying to find alternatives and craved some raw chocolate, and came across Chocolita’s brand. This chocolate is raw, vegan, and uses fairly traded organic cacao. I purchased Lemon and Pine Pollen and Blueberry Lotus. I love this
raw chocolate, Lemon & Pine Pollen is reminiscent of white chocolate, heavenly and buttery. Blueberry lotus is fragrant and you definitely get blueberry flavor without losing a dark chocolate taste. Would I purchase these again? Yes!

Fawn Lily Botanica* – c/o Organic Chai Spice Artisan Soap  I don’t even know where to begin, I have long admired this shop for sticking to its methods of organic, ethically widharvested handmade products. The Chai soap is so fragrant! I initially wondered whether I would approve since chai is a distinct scent but this soap nails it perfectly & authentically: extra bonus: its made with sustainable palm oil.  Organic Botanical Delight Facial Steam It may (still) be slightly sunny here but the weather has gotten noticeably drier (and windy) which has been taking its toll on my skin and health (post on that coming soon) so I picked this facial steam to try out, very floral featuring organic chamomile, lavender, rose and other petals facia steams are used to moisturize, and given the ingredients used they can detoxify, stimulate or relax. Personally I have been dealing with a lot of allergies, congestion and dry skin so I am excited to treat my skin and respiratory system to this steam tea! If you have never done a facial steam I highly recommend watching some videos like <a href="http://“>this one or this one by Shiva to acquaint yourself. Have you ever tried a facial beauty steam?

*All of Fawn Lily Botanica’s creations are handmade in small batches from medicinal and organic ingredients derived from plants, and contain no harsh chemicals, additives, fragrances, colorants, preservatives

Wildwood Hot Apple Cider Blend | Another gift from Hannah that are i super excited to try out, I have made apple cider in the past but mostly used ground spices, these are the spices in full featuring the best of autumn: star anise, cinnamon, clove etc. I really need to go get some cider to mull!

La Papierre | Owl & Moon Stationary is so sweet for writing to penpals. The sets are up to you but the envelopes are made with 30% post consumer waste, i was really please with the quality of this seller

Elysium Apothecary Beeswax Candles | I love beeswax candles more than anything, now that its Autumn the weather is dwidling down and I cannot wait to light candles, drink tea and wear wool socks. Please note beeswax candles are available as a made-to-order so just message the shop to purchase some

Colorganics Lip Tint in Earth | Whenever I order a lip tint online I always have two worries. That the color will not be as strong, or that the color will be radically different than what i initially expected. That was not the case with this lip tint, its definitely a tint, but a strong one. I’m kind of obsessed with lip tints/color and this one is filled with moisturizing goodness like hemp seed, castor and beeswax. The color I chose is a deep true brown/red.

John Masters Organics Rose Foaming Face Wash | This is actually a little sample from my friend Hannah, but I have to say I enjoy that it contains no harsh chemicals, its gluten free and contains rose damascus. I will keep using the sample and see if I will purchase the full size as a staple, I am keeping my fingers crossed for the perfect cleanser!

Wigwam® Cypress socks | Sold at Madewell these are cozy grey cotton/nylon blend socks that are made in the US and I can’t get enough.

Interview: Adriana Sinke

Adriana is a beautiful person I follow on Instagram. I love her captures and wish we could have coffee & tea, have overcast adventures while meeting forest dwellers and watch Audrey Hepburn films. Although she is not a photographer, her documents suggest other wise. All photos came from her  instagram at

Hello my name is :
Adriana and I am a wife, an explorer, and a dreamer. I love making the most of every spare moment! I married my best friend Adam three years ago. This has been my proudest accomplishment and biggest adventure to date. I love reading, being outdoors, spending hours in cafes, and listening to music. I am currently working as an accounting assistant for a small non-profit association. I have my BA in environment, resources, and development (basically geography). I absolutely love what I went to university for and would love to work in my field someday. I am considering pursuing a masters degree!

Congrats on being a Instagram-Suggested User, what do you love about photography+documenting?

Thank you! Being selected for the suggested user list was so unexpected. I am by no means a professional photographer so I felt truly honored to have been recognized in this way! I use instagram as a way to share my adventures and beauty I see in everyday life. What I love most about it is the community. Each little snapshot that people post of instagram gives a glimpse into their life and who they are. I love meeting new people and making new friends and I find that instagram is an excellent way to connect with people from around the world! I have made many friends through the app (some I have even had the pleasure of meeting in real life). I have not only gained a new hobby, but also gained irreplaceable friends, pen pals, and unimaginable inspiration. To me, documenting means capturing special moments in my life. I love documenting life through photography (whether it be through iPhone photography, film, or dslr). I love that we can document these special and beautiful moments and hold them as physical memories forever
What inspires you?
I find inspiration in my surroundings (people, places, things). I live in an incredibly beautiful part of the country and have to do little more than look out my window to be inspired. I would say I am most inspired by nature; the mountains, the ocean, plants, wildlife, etc. I could spend endless hours outside enjoying the beauty of this world. I try to find beauty in all facets of life. Something as simple as enjoying a cup of tea while reading a good book in the comfrot of my own home can be beautiful and inspiring. People are also such an inspiration to me. I love listening to people’s stories, and find constant inspiration through others!

What are your vices?

I work a typical Monday-Friday 9-5 type of job so my husband and I like to enjoy our weekends to the fullest. I spend a lot of time (and money) on coffee. I love going to cafes to read a book or catch up with friends. I could spend the better part of my weekend in a cafe. Cafes and coffee aside, I really love food. If I didn’t make myself a very clear budget I would spend the majority of my paycheque on food! There are so may amazing restaurents in Vancouver so we never lack for an amazing place to eat, unfortunately this gets expensive!

I love to explore, my favorite places are:
I like to think of myself as an explorer/adventurer! It is my dream the travel the entire world someday. That being said, I try not to forget about all the incredible places to explore that are close to home. Some of my favorite places in the world are:

Turkey – we went here for our honeymoon so it has a lot of sentimental value! That aside, I think Turkey is an incredible country with so much to do and see. Unfortunately many people don’t really think of Turkey as a vacation destination. We travelled the whole country and I cannot possibly say enough good things about the people, the culture, the sites, and the food!!

Lighthouse Park – I love spending my weekends here. It is easy to find a quiet and private place right by the ocean. We bring snacks, blankets, and books and have the perfect time!

The West Coast – we drove from Portland to Cannon Beach and then up the entire coast back to Vancouver last summer. It was an incredible and beautiful trip, I would do it again in a heartbeat.

My Aunt/Uncle’s cottage – My family owns a small cabin on the Sunshine Coast in BC. It is so beautiful there and I always have an amazing time whenever we visit. It is the most beautiful and peaceful cabin!

5 Things that Heal me:
Laughter – I am a happy person (most of the time!) and I love to laugh. If I am feeling down I try to find someone or something that will make me laugh and my mood immediately improves. I believe there is true healing in happiness and laughter.
Family – My family is the most important thing in my life. Both my husband and I are truly blessed to have such incredible families. We moved from Ontario to BC about a year and a half ago leaving our family behind. I miss them everyday, but if I am every feeling like I need a pick-me-up I know they are only a phone call away. All our family members are so encouraging and supportive, they are truly our best friends. It is a wonderful feeling to know that no matter how long you have gone without talking, your family is always there and always loves you.
Music – I believe that music is one of the most powerful forces in the world. It has a way of evoking emotions like nothing else. I can find music I love for every mood I am in. I also love the nostalgia that music creates. There are certain songs or certain artists that cause vivid memories to come rushing back to me, it is truly powerful!
Literature – I love a good book. There is nothing I find more relaxing than curling up with a good cup of tea and an amazing book. I imagine things very vividly so I think this is why I enjoy reading so much.
Nature – I feel most calm and at peace when I am outdoors. I feel so uplifted and calm when I am outdoors, away from the bussiness of city life, away from the noise and the stress. There is nothing more calming than relaxing by the ocean and listening to the sound of the waves crashing!

Favorite records & films :

Iron & Wine Sigur Ros, The National, Band of Horses, Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros, Bon Iver, Fruit Bats
Some of my favorite films include Amelie, The Royal Tenenbaums, Life Aquatic, Moonrise Kingdom (pretty much anything Wes Anderson), Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Little Miss Sunshine, Stranger than Ficton.

I live in:

Vancouver, BC, Canada and Vancouver has so many excellent cafes, restaurents, and attractions. My favorite cafes in the city are: Matchstick, Nelson the Seagull, Revolver, JJ Bean, and Prado.
My favorite restuarnets are: Toshi (for sushi), Peaceful Restaurent (for the most amazing Chinese noodles), Blue Water Cafe (for a fancy date), Stephos (for good, cheap Greek), and the Olive and Anchor (in Horseshoe Bay, for a good food and the best burger I have ever had!). My favorite shop in Vancouver is Old Faithful Shop, they carry high quality and beautiful items for home.

Books I love :

Some of my favorite books are;
East of Eden by John Steinbeck,
anything by Margaret Atwood (but especially The Handmaid’s Tale and The Blind Assassian)
1984 and Animal Farm by George Orwell
The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald
I could go on all day!

In 5 years I want to :

Own a cafe! My husband and I have plans to move the the US and start a cafe with two of our very dear friends. The plan is already in the works, they’ve bought a space already, we need to work out some minor details! It is my dream to work for myself and own a cafe, I am so excited for this chapter of my life. In five years time I will also (hopefully) have done a lot more travelling. By that time I hope to have travelled most of Europe and Asia! We are headed to Iceland, Norway, Sweden, and Denmark at the end of summer this year so that will knock a couple off my list. In 5 years I also expect that Adam and I will have started a family!!

One piece of advice: Follow your dreams no matter how big they seem and live without regret! Be passionate and live boldly!

“The cat likes overhearing children’s stories”

With the new years comes the desire from resolutions  goals, things to overcome in the new year. Though I have written a bit about what I would like the new year to bring, but I think it is a good to have dreams and I like to think of goals as a paper ship ride, not fully knowing where you will go but eventually, you will reach land. And that is important. To journey and have a vision (or several) and see where the wind will take you.

This  year I would like to

1. Harvest a garden. I want wildflowers, herbs and maybe a small lemon tree
2. Explore more of California, and have more adventures in general, make new friendships
3. Journal more. I admire people who at the end of the year have heavily filled journals
4. Write down every bit of inspiration, vision and dream
5. Tackle new knitting techniques, as daunting or intimidating as it may seem
6. Collect more treasures and old books
7. Focus more on my darling pen pals/packages
8. Join a workshop, any kind, at least once this year
9. My goal this year is to read 60 books.
10. Improve my health organically, holistically. blogs I love : Brit, Sarah and Keeper of the Home
11. Document more, I used to be someone who took photos and captured memories, I haven’t done that in years, I want to return to collecting memories

I have more but I’ll keep this one short!
