Zero Waste + Minimalist & Palm Oil Free Bath Guide

We are a few days away from the year ending and I have my own plans written down and I’ve got my Kleen Kanteen on call. Still I am thinking about the year beginning and perhaps many of us should pass the torch from reflection to decompressing. From the holidays, from the ending of a year, & everything that came with it.

Bath-rituals are my favorite part of the day (besides coffee). It’s the ritual of cleansing and unwinding from the day and getting ready to rest your head and have sweet dreams. To keep my showers environmentally conscious I time them and I tend to find myself unconsciously meditating through then. Treat yourself with this ethical + zero waste guide on organic & wildcrafted bath & wash products. Part two will come in 2017!

Heal / Acure Organics Dry Body Spray in Marula + Argan | y’all this product smells like a tropical island. Coconut, sea buckthorn and argan oil make this a healing oil that can be used on the ends of your hair or a body spray. It’s vegan and fragrance free with only botanicals making this blend. The bottle is recyclable – a really delicious investment piece because a little goes a long way with oil. You need not too much to soothe with this oil
Wash/ Gaia Entrancic Ah, I am proud of myself for finding a palm oil free package-free soap. Its not easy, even if you go to natural health/food stores, its still manages to find its way there. Gaia Entrancic makes vegan & palm oil free soaps that are also organic and packaged sustainably. Several of the ingredients are harvested from shop-owner Kaitlin’s garden and smell wonderful. She offers a variety of scents that rely on essential oils & not fragrance or synthetics.
Scent / Aura Aroma: Air, Body & Upholstery Mist | A multipurpose spray that is made with witch hazel and essential oils. I chose Tranquility that is a blend of bergamot, cedar-wood, sage, lavender, and neroli. These come in glass bottles made from recycled materials. I like spraying them in the shower and then after ward when I head to sleep.
Cleanse / Toockies Certified Organic “Her” Washcloths | These hand knit washcloths are perfect for washing or dry scrubbing (stimulate circulation). you can also machine-wash them in the dryer when needed, but when their time is up? These cloths are compostableand or can be recycled/reused as you wish. Zero waste and beautiful organic weaving. Even more is the story behind the knitters:  these are fair trade products made by women who earn a living wage through Toockies Project, these women are given a voice – the company adds their photographs a small note on the products they have knit and anyone who wants to know who created the garment can look her up.
Soothe / Fat & the Moon All Salve | I have an unfortunate tendency to get dry lips and palms during the winter. The drop in temperature and shift of seasons tends to cause issues. This All Salve is a rescue balm with Calendula, Comfrey and Yerba Mansa infused sunflower oil for applying on my lips, hands and under eye area after a shower or when needed. This is an organic based blend and its plastic-free, it comes in a metal tin which can be reused or up-cycled.

Bath Ritual // Rejuvenating

Whether you abide by one in the daylight or nighttime, bath rituals are very beneficial for physical and mental well being. Everyone should take the time to discover something that will heal/nurture them. Even if you can only treat yourself once a month or on a daily basis I wanted to a share a few recent & tried & true products that made their way into my own bath rituals. Unlike a shower, bath rituals are not limited for cleansing & detoxifying: bring a book, play a tape of calming music or even a glass of wine if you have the chance.

Whatever you desire as long as it n o u r i s h e s you.

This bath ritual is center around uplifting, movement & stimulating. By all means build your own tools for any mood you wish to channel. All of the products I featured are either organic and/or nontoxic. Enjoy & indulge.

Body Brush: The art of dry skin brushing has been around for a long time in Ayurvedic culture. Prior to your bath, use a bristle body brush in circulate motion to stimulate the lymph glands (part of our immune system) and is made of white blood cells called lymphocytes and the interstitial fluid that bathe our cells, bringing them nutrients and removing their waste. All detoxification occurs first and foremost through the lymph – (via) Its recommended you start from the ankles working your way up, especially the neck & collar bone region. This act also helps exfoliate dead skin cells and boost circulation.

Little Flower Soap Co. Handmade Soap in ‘Woodsman’: Cedar, camphor, and spruce make up this soap’s body. Regardless of the title, I wanted to bring in the scent of the forest in my bath. The added bonus of clays in this soap helps remove impurities.

Elysium Apothecary Candle in “Petite Fleurs*”:  I normally lean toward vanilla & decadent scents but this scent is made with honeysuckle, strong black tea, lemon, blood orange & white sugar so I was completely sold, and did not regret it at all. Its citrus but in a way I have never encountered. Candles are relaxing form of aromatherapy, this shop uses botanical and primarily essential oil based blends which is comforting to know. Light candles with your scent of choice to uplift or improve your mood. The tea lights are a lovely vanilla scent though.

Josie Maran Cleansing Oil: This oil has multi uses as a  cleansing oil, makeup remover and anti-aging treatment. Focusing on the bath ritual use a cleansing oil to clean your face of any impurities, soothe and moisturize. Relax and enjoy. Another notable option is Marble & Milkweed’s Nourishing Body Oil

Aromalife Cinnamon Leaf Oil: My cinnamon leaf oil was kindly gifted to me by a friend but any organic cinnamon leaf oil will do. Cinnamon is a well known spice, stimulates circulation but be sure to dilute a few drops into a lotion, or use in a oil diffuser. Please avoid cinnamon if you a pregnant/lactating and do not consume internally. Another option is a fragrant beauty tea like R.L. Linden & Co. Ms. Tilly Rosalie’s Beauty Tea for  facial steaming, an eye compress or aromatic plant bath.

One Willow Apothecaries ‘Bright & Early’ tea blend:  featuring tulsi, lemongrass and sage are a few of the herbs in this lovely blend. Sage is wonderful for reducing inflammation thanks to its rosmarinic acid, Tulsi is also known as holy basil and as an adaptogen it helps the body to resist stress. Lemongrass contains citral – an anti-microbial and anti-fungal agent. This tea is uplifting, rejuvenating.
