This was a belated but beautiful mini-staycation I took in April. I haven’t been to Monterey since I was a teenager, and it was there that I fell in love (but was slightly intimidated! By the winding roads!) with Carmel by the Sea. The central coast clearly has my heart. It’s so lush and carefree compared to the city. There are a good number of tourist but for the most part everyone seems to be going at a slower pace which is a good reminder for any of us.
Another perk to these cities are the fact that they are dog friendly! I took my own pup Mimi and she really enjoyed herself while we made our way through the downtown area of Carmel. Many of the shops and cafes even leave out dog bowls for the fur-babies.
For some, February is the themed month of love, romance, and the palette of rosy tones.
Real talk though: I think we could all use some self love. Whether it’s stress caused by our daily environment (work, school, etc.) or personal lives, (the ever-changing nature of news cycles), or simply the own expectations and ambitions we set on ourselves, sometimes you genuinely need a break. Which means putting yourself first. Which means stepping back to emotional check in with your self – mind, body, & soul.
Turthfully: bad days happen, obstacles happen, circumstances happen. Heartache happens. No matter how much we may try to prevent it, we’ll have those days or periods in our lives that will challenge us. I’ve humbly surrendered to giving myself space to feel my emotions. Instead of holding on or telling myself that nothing hurts me (lie) – I will find the time to let it go and release.
When summer comes, I’m not exactly thrilled. High temperatures, redirecting my attention to summer skin care, and the unwelcome return of certain insects that like to bite kind of ruin my vibe. But there are positives! The abundance of produce, a legit reason to get out of my home to travel to another city with more desirable temperatures (here’s looking at you, Santa Barbara)
Summer also gives us a reason to spend more time outdoors. Think porch picnics, watching the sunset, post-dusk walks when the temperatures drop and you can escape the heat at the end of the day.
