Here’s what I know: if you have a rough day it’s absolutely acceptable to nap and let your body + mind unwind. It may even be necessary to indulge in a warm night time shower to come out renew. There’s nothing wrong with warming up a bowl of oatmeal that’s sweetened with dried berries and cinnamon. Each spoonful enveloping you with it’s warmth, nourishing you with flavor, even at midnight when you finally have some peace to yourself.
I’m learning that I need to continuously come clean with myself. To confront myself and not hide away. I’m learning that it’s okay to pick up the pieces of yourself that hurt. This is how you develop strength. Release each breath, deep and cathartic as it may be. Allow yourself to feel because believe me your body longs to let everything out. This is how I revive myself through a difficult time.
My natural state tends to be an optimistic one. I thrive off joy and helping others whenever I can. But I also thrive off self-reflection and recuperation. It’s a balance of the two, learning to be mindful of what I want & need.
But sometimes I do have bad days, those days that make me want to curl up hide or simply leave me frustrated. Or sometimes the news can be overwhelming, sad, and scary.
We can’t stop the bad days or the bad news from happening. I wish we could, but I believe in hope and recovery. Our selves come first, and here I am sharing some ways that can help you through those rough & tumble times, Remember to be kind to yourself and one another.

Shake it off: Move. When I have a bad day my mood goes low, I don’t feel (read: want to) do much of anything that requires energy. While its fine to allow yourself to feel & ride the waves of emotion there comes a time you want to move out of stagnancy or simply, feel better. So I move. I take myself (sometimes some headphones) and walk along my neighborhood. I challenge myself to notice what’s around me: the movement of wildlife, new flowers, the sky at that very moment. This helps me to stop focusing on why my day was bad or stop any negative thoughts from being so loud. Instead of fixating on something, I get some physical activity and time with myself.

After a long work week sometimes you need a bit of downtime to yourself. I repeat: take time to do your own thing. Never feel like you can’t dedicate some time to unwind, especially on the warm sunny summer days. Because ideally, I would be taking a languid stroll through the lake but you know, I can dream. While August is wining down (but those darn templates still rising!) I wanted to take it easy. Like maybe embrace the summer day. You know?
So onto this easy dusk-time meal. Pizza is one of my favorite things in life, you can top it with whatever is local, whatever is a bulk find, and its quite easy of a recipe because the weekends are(should be) for chilling (and getting down to relaxing). I added a plant based + vegan ricotta cheese but feel free to change it up! I ended up making this roasted summer veggie pizza to split with my mum + some galaxy (flower) iced lemonade that is a radially beautiful, albeit not traditional lemonade color!
