NOVEMBER GOALS & DREAMS

It’s the end of November and I have no idea where the time has gone. Tomorrow we welcome in December and soon we welcome winter. Say goodbye to pumpkin spice everything and bring on the peppermint vibes. feel free to share any plans y’all got for winter because I need to get a start on that as well. This November (and most of this Fall) was spent doing all the fall things and I am really glad for all the experiences.

I have a lot of positive thoughts and reflections for this November. November gave me the chance to go inward and experience that growth period. The weather dropped and we even got rain, although I really dislike driving in that weather. But the coziness of experiencing a autumnal month led me to have plenty of time for reflection. There is also a sense of self confidence to state: I need this time for myself.

GRATEFULNESS AND SELF CARE DURING THE HOLIDAYS

real talk time.

When we think of the holiday season we conjure up expectations of community, gatherings, and celebration. Some of us decorate our homes and settings. We search for warmth and embark on the hustle. The to-do list of traditions (meals to prepare, plans within family and/or friends, dates to fill in) merges with our everyday life (work, academia, home life, personal responsibilities). All of this is almost expected. Once fall comes in we know that the excitement of the holiday season will spring upon us and fill us with anticipation.

However, I’m writing this to advocate for those who may not have the smoothest time during the season. This can be for many reasons. Not all of us have a strong family unit, some of us get overwhelmed by the idea of an “ideal holiday” and having to “do it all”, some of us experience emotional triggers that we keep to ourselves. Because we choose to hide them or we don’t want to disrupt anyone’s joy. There are many reasons why the holiday stress can bubble even if we don’t project it for others to know.

COFFEE TALK: THE IMPORTANCE OF YOUR SELF WORTH

Others actions do not determine your self worth

Repeat this, underline, bold it, mentally ink it til you memorize it.

On a previous Instagram post, I wrote about the illusion of perfection. I basically fell to the notion that I needed to consistently excel in order to feel “worthy” or credible as a person, that this applied to all areas: my behavior, my looks, the way others perceived me. Guess what, this mode of thinking was just toxic at best.

The way others treat us, behave towards us, or our time with them isn’t a reflection of your self worth. Do not question or doubt your value or hustle based on what someone thinks or their actions toward you. Here’s why: your opinion comes first, your worth isn’t dictated by your relationship status, your net worth, your past, or the media. Do not submit to thinking that you have to change for others to fit in a box. Personally I believe we should continually be growing, progressing, and evolving for ourselves. Some of us were not given that golden principle to: cultivate your own happiness. Some of us are scared to do it. Some of us think we have to look a certain way to get it, but this is truly false.

MARCH INTENTIONS: MINDFULNESS

Hello March, you’re already here. I’m mind blown by how quickly the year seems to be going! Am I the only one? We’ve had deliciously cold weather that’s led to warm sweaters during the day & the thickest blankets at night to decompress. I’ve still be making warm ‘shroom milks (medicinal mushrooms!) with rooting herbs & spices. I’ve been spending my Fridays in LA and am thinking about compiling a small guide of places I love to visit while I’m there.

We had some glorious rain (last for a while day and I enjoyed every bit) and I have been reminding myself of the word I picked for this year: rooted. Warming, grounding, earthy elements. From experimenting with tonics & soups to getting some more plants, mindful meditation…it’s all good.
