Travel With Me : Big Bear Lake

This was perhaps one of the most special yet rejuvenating trips I have had in quite a long time. Travel can sometimes be stressful even if the goal is to vacation. You either bring too much or not enough, you feel rushed or feel like you should be doing more. Thankfully this was not the cause on our adventure. Our drive was windy but to eat diner food and share warm cocoa leaving us with fully bellies was a comfort in itself. Elevated by the actual autumnal weather as we hit the short drive to the cabin only to warm by the fire and listen to the thunder and watch the sparks of lightning.

This was a truly enchanting trip. We got a cabin from Air Bnb for a really good deal (if you want 40$ off your first trip use my code through this link!) I loved the fireplace and being so close to the trees and making tons of tea in the morning. Having never been to Big Bear, experiencing it in the autumn was a real joy. Driving at night felt as if I were driving through a Christmas town within a snow globe. At daytime we embarked out to explore the city,  witnessing the trees hitting their peak of autumnal color – ranging from orange, ochre, and intense reds.

TRAVEL WITH ME: CARMEL/MONTEREY

This was a belated but beautiful mini-staycation I took in April. I haven’t been to Monterey since I was a teenager, and it was there that I fell in love (but was slightly intimidated! By the winding roads!) with Carmel by the Sea. The central coast clearly has my heart. It’s so lush and carefree compared to the city. There are a good number of tourist but for the most part everyone seems to be going at a slower pace which is a good reminder for any of us.

Another perk to these cities are the fact that they are dog friendly! I took my own pup Mimi and she really enjoyed herself while we made our way through the downtown area of Carmel. Many of the shops and cafes even leave out dog bowls for the fur-babies.

TRAVEL WITH ME: SAN CLEMENTE

San Clemente. Last Fall while I was deciding on where to go for a mini getaway I had so many ideas in mind but, my top priorities were: price, safety, and (duh) aesthetics. I was craving color and comfort but also ease of travel because sometimes public transportation or simply being within walking distance is preferable to explore the city.

Nestled in Orange County, San Clemente is an artsy but also lively beach city with plenty to explore and visit. The weather is really nice but I recommend bringing a cardigan or light coat if you decide to spend the night out. Its definitely a city I want to go back and explore. You can walk freely at night because literally everyone is awake. Whether they are grabbing a late night bite, walking back from the beach, finding some coffee, or hanging with friends. I love cities that are night owl friendly quite honestly. But don’t think that it’ll prevent a good sleep – the tourist and locals aren’t loud that you’ll need a sound machine or so. Even lounging at midnight with a movie and snack at your Air BNB is a treat.

LEARNING HOW TO EMBRACE + NOURISH YOURSELF.

Summer isn’t my jive. I find myself slower to start and a bit more tired. However, I know I can work with the season, not against it. Learning to look at the blossoming flowers or cracks of sunlight at the coming of dusk. Learning to change my rhythm and expectations with this season.

I am practicing thankfulness and calming my inner child who so desperately longs for autumn and the magic that comes with it, however I am nipping my anticipation in the bud and silencing my pace to consider and reflect what I should be investing my time in, what will further my growth? We can be so easily distracted and I ask myself: how many times have I chosen in dwell in doubt instead of seeking inspiration instead? So here is my list for Summer:

✖journaling

✖sketching + drawing

✖normal sleep hours

✖daily walks

✖accepting

✖frolicking with nature

✖writing it all down

✖tune in • stress less

✖travel

✖revel in hazy days with reckless abandon (sort of)

✖Love yourself first. I believe we can be our first and perhaps worst critic. We think we must constantly be on the move, on the go, we set so many expectations on ourselves that hinder our ability to thrive. We believe that our lives must be a specific way or pattern and that others must also align with our expectations.

Cambria, CA.

Whether you wish to put the pen to paper, or search for new adventures through the camera lens, or build roots + stability beneath your soles and peace of mind, you must trust in yourself first, and then invest in yourself, and then build upon yourself. Schedule your happiness in. Dance to the beat of your heart. Cook yourself a nourishing meal. Run through the nearest green grass you can find. Savor in life. Understand that life is not perfect, perhaps it was never meant consistently be so, therefore you must make everyday count. Imbue it with hope, joy, laughter, whatever you wish to integrate in your life.

always surround yourself with nature

Remember: Don’t focus on the curated lifestyle of others’. Instead, chose to curate your life + bliss.
